If you love nature or simply love to hike mountains but yet never ever been to Indonesia's mountain before, you are missing something BIG. BIG time.
The mountain I hiked was at Java Island, in a city called Semarang. The mountain is called Merbabu and it is one of the hardest mountain to climb. (As they said)
Yes, I am not a sporty person. Yes, I have never ever hiked a mountain before. And yes, this is probably the craziest shit I've done in my life.
So how did I get there?
Ok, first step is we ordered a train ticket for 11 person (yes I know it's like a family tour) at the station. Then, we rent a mini van and a driver to take us to the basecamp.
So it took us 6 hours just to get to Semarang from Jakarta. The train we took was an Economy Train, which means the lowest and cheapest one we can get at that day. The seats were hella straight and the distance between us and the person in front of us was not more than 10 meter. (Yes we sit facing each other) and because it was almost a dozen of us we didn't get to sit together. So I sit with my friend Asen. And I wouldn't want to choose any other sitting buddy because I just simply love this guy. We talked for hours talking about random shit. It was so random I can't even. Haha
I miss him a lot. He's like the real-est person I know. He keeps me away from drama and overthinking. I wish he's in Singapore studying aboard as well! And I do hope one day he can come to Singapore, I'd show him everything I know here! Here's a bonus of a pic I took on the train!
So we arrived at Semarang dark and then it took us almost 3 hours I think to the basecamp. Which is outside the city. It was suuuuper cold although it's not even near to the mountain it the track to the basecamp was small, scary and realy-really steep (yes I googled that word) so the car often went down because it wasn't strong enough. Well eventually we made it. The basecamp was actually a smal stall and then the owner was super nice! He gave us hot tea and a fire for is to warm ourselves.
We slept for an hour or two and in the morning we're ready to go. All of my friends were wearing jacket and stuff to cover themselves, probably thinking that it wouldn't be hot. But the tour guide told us to take them all off. So we did. So half way, it was hot as hell. It's windy and stuff but still, hot as hell. Not to mention our super heavy bags. Well, I can't complain because I wasn't carrying as much as them (the perk of being a girl) but ya it was crazy, I couldn't imagine how it felt like to be them. I, myself, literally almost die (ok maybe no), how about them!? Who's carrying four liters of water because there's no water source at all. Die man, die. Every 5 minutes of walking has already taken our breath and energy a lot. We were so not ready for this shit.
Well I didn't took a lot of picture simply because I didn't have a camera, although I did manage to borrow from my friend and I am soooo lazy to take my phone out because it's totally not a walk in the park. Dust are everywhere and stuff.
But I'm just gonna upload some pictures that I like amongs the one I don't really like:
The last pics were actually Mount Merapi. We can see it from Merbabu :) I didn't have any night shoots because it was damn cold at night. It's unbearable I swear. It's so colddddd nothing can describe it. I just wanted to get in my sleeping bag and stay until the sun comes out. I regret tho but it was beautiful. You can see billions of stars shining bright and also cities from below. Damn, the view was amazing.
Anyway we hiked for 10 hours and went down for 7 hours. We didn't made it to the top because we were slow and there were a bunch of us. But it's fine because we get to do things that not everyone can do! The experience was amazing. The view was amazing. Everything is just so perfect. So I WILL definetly come back for it. And next time I'll made it to the top!!
So that's all for this post and I'll see ya again, Merbabu!!
